sometimes i hate.

Today I finally started working on a new project,
and was all giddy with inspiration and expectation,
and then ended up HATING the piece in progress.

Is that so wrong? What do you do, when that happens?
Do you trash it? Set it aside? Give it to the
puppy to shred?

Or am I the only one who hates?

Here's a piece of it. Ironic, huh?

We'll see what happens.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I hate it when that happens! I usually just keep trying to work with the piece-and sometimes it turns into something I like. From the looks of yours-I like it already!

I ALWAYS!!!! hate the things I make. I usually have to put them to the side and give it a day and then go back to them....then I usually like it!

I actually like this piece!

I think if you hate something, the best thing is to put it away for a month or so, then come back to it with a fresh eye. Try and pinpoint what it is that particularly displeases you: is it the colour? The shape? Does it seem too busy? Does it seem to sparse? Then you can go ahead and fix whatever it is and see if everything becomes balanced again.

For total, total disasters you really feel you CANNOT save, there are two choices: rip it all off and start again ... or... if you really can't bear to even look at it - BIN it. It's not worth wasting time and stress on.

Hope this helps!

Personally ,I don't see anything to dislike in this piece but perhaps you could apply it to a deeper coloured background fabric.
There's nothing wrong with "binning" what you feel uncomfortable with but most "challenges" can be met with after a little while.
Just put it aside for a day or two....the "light" will come on..LOL

Good Grief Girl!
I think that your project is wonderful just as it is...What a beautiful start or finish...as you wish!
I looked and thought how lovely. You should finish it as you want or just leave it!
Wish my mistakes looked that good!!

thank you for all the kind comments and advice.

i told Susie that it's mellowed from an outright HATE to a mere disgust, so setting it aside has definitely helped. we'll see where it goes (maybe the bin)!

I like this. It has got great composition. Just beautiful.

I do that all the time- not like what I do. Then I say, 'oh well', and let go of it for a while.Sometimes I like it better when I come back to it, or grouped with other items.

Other times, I take it apart or paint over it or leave it alone for a long while.

Your piece is really very pretty. Perhaps our dissatisfaction with our own work(when we have it), is because we are striving for something else to come out of us. But, maybe what we produce is exactly what we should create.

Maybe it is a stepping stone to something else inside of us, that we did not even know was in us.
