how do you photograph glitter?

I dunno. You tell me. These pages are for Lynna's fairy
and dragonfly themed altered book, for the altered book
round robin at Altered Pages.

There is actually a lot of shine to these pages, some
nice glittery stuff on the script pages and library
pocket card, and (of course!) on the dragonfly wings.

The pages are sprayed with an iridescent finish, but
that's not really showing, either.

That's the advantage of holding the real thing in your
hands--you get all the textures, shine, even the heft
of something adds to the whole enjoyment, at least for
me.

Can you tell I'm one of those people who have to keep
their hands in their pockets when they go to the museum?
I swear, those guards KNOW it, too. They have some kind
of weird "She's a toucher" sense, and they follow me
around. Which actually works to my advantage, because
if you ask them questions, most of them have lots of
good information.

Are YOU a toucher?

Right. That sounds more than a little creepy. Maybe
you should just say no, and move on . . . unless you
can tell me how to get a good pic of the glitter!

This is absolutely magical!!! I'm sure it's even more so, IRL - so many wonderful details and shimmery-ness. I'm a "toucher," too. That's why, aside from using some digi images within something "real," I could never go totally digital. It's gotta have some substance - it's gotta look different from different angles. And yes, I've found the "touch police" to be quite informative, as well, LOL!!

Awwww, how sweet! I recognize that green shiny plasticy stuff! I've had a bit of luck with the glitter pics taking them in the lightbox I created... Maybe just proper lighting?

THE SUN came out today, and you know, I actually got a decent picture of a scrapbook layout with jewels on it. The bling always looks flat when I photograph it, but this turned out decent.

So, yes, good lighting is probably the key to most of my photography issues . . .

Oh Me Too! I am a toucher...I love the texture and feel of things. I too find it extremely irritating at how badly glitter, pearlescents and other shimmery goodness does not photograph well. I find I have the same problem with my watercolors. I use an extremely high chroma palette, so the colors never come out their true self...so disappointing when you are trying to share your art! Thanks for sharing!

P.S. I ADORE your fairy page and am sure it is just STUNNING in person! At least the wings have a wonderful texture that was picked up!

Loverly!
Lovely wings.
Yes, my name is Rhonda and I am a toucher. It doesn't even have to be art-just running my hands over my ink pads or through my stash of sharpies makes me smile.

Hi Trisha...I am not much help either and I was busy reading to see if anyone had any great ideas. But whatever you did, this art turned out beautifully...it is a gorgeous piece, in every way. Thank you so much for joining my followers list. Your blog art is excellent and I look forward to returning. I have joined you as well. Hugs, Gayle.

(popped in to artezine cafe & found your post) What a beautiful, romantic page... just gorgeous-gorgeous-GORGEOUS! That shade of aqua blue-green is one of my favorites as is Shakespeare. The feathers and dragonflies are perfect touches. - vicki xo
